Shortly after I moved to Washington, I hired Stephanie as my holistic health coach and we had an immediate kindred connection. She has been such an amazing support to me in my life over the past few years, that I wanted to spread the love and support her latest yummy adventure and share it with all of you. I'm so excited to take this e-course!

************** Hello Lovelies!

I'm Stephanie, a certified holistic health and lifestyle coach and one half of the team Feathering the Nest, a new e-course I developed with the lovely Leah Kent of Skill It. Leah and I both have backgrounds in the arts as well as plenty of hours logged in the kitchen developing recipes for our clients. We were drawn together by our shared passion for making our homes into nuturing soul spaces. We think the things you choose to surround yourself with have a profound affect on your mind and body. We want your home to not only reflect the beauty inside of you, but nourish and give back to you, in a way that will transform how you move into each day.

feathering1.jpg

Feathering the Nest will be an eclectic two week journey through your home, a sensual path to self discovery. We will be creating beautiful things for our homes with our own hands, getting cozy with really fun and intuitive writing exercises and cooking up some delicious recipes. You'll also receive beautiful printables to use over and over as you explore your nesting style. We are going beyond just aesthetics and finding our own unique path by tapping into feng shui, numerology and chakra wisdom. You'll gain entrance into a sacred online space to share your experience, pictures and inspirations with kindred souls.

Seahorse Dress

"Any mermaid would be happy to pack the Seahorse Dress in her conch shell. Made from a soft and silky jersey knit that doesn't mind getting wet and dries super easily, it's a natural for a day that includes having fun on both water and land. Details like an internal shelf bra, fetching Y-racerback and movement-loving a-line silhouette are a bridge between life lived outdoors and around town."

What makes me happiest about this GIVEaway is that this means Spring and Summer are so so close! This is a dreamy dress (the name alone is dreamy) by Hornytoad and the perfect accessory for sunny watery fun.

We bought a sweet retro speed boat some months ago and are so thrilled to take it out on our bay once we fix a few things. THIS is the dress I'm going to wear for its comfort, flow, support and ability to get wet!! Everything I own from Hornytoad is such good good quality that holds up in the wash, is practical and beautiful and most of all COMFY.

This dress comes in three colors: Black, Lapis and Nectar (shown in images above).

{skeleton leaf necklace}

I am so thrilled to be offering this GIVEaway in my space. Georgia (the designer) is one of my favorite people in the Universe. We have a long history in this internet space. She's always been one to keep me laughing even when things are hard and mucky. She reminds me to find humor in everything and to laugh at myself often. Laughter is my medicine. It takes one to know one. I've been blessed enough to be near her in person a handful of times and this woman is the real deal. She's the kind of gal that will bring you a coffee and a warm hug in the early morning before your flight home. So generous, so true to everything she is passionate about and pours her heart, hands and soul into.

Meet the love-ely Georgia:

georgia cranston "I am a mama, a dreamer, a lover, an avid reader, an artist and a writer…

I am a photographer, I chase light and capture moments.

I believe in faeries, and magic.

I like to bask in the glow of a full moon, and dip my toes into the ocean."

The winner of the $50 credit to Amy's Boho Chic shop is the 82nd commenter, Penny!

Congrats, Penny. You will be contacted by Amy to discuss details.

Amy also wanted to extend a 25% discount at her shop to all of my readers! Just use the code "bohochic25" when checking out. She was so moved and touched by all of your kind words... "Please tell them how much I have enjoyed reading their words. I would have loved to have written a personal note to each of them for the beauty they gave me."

Other ways you can connect to Amy are: Twitter - @amywaltzdotcom Facebook - Amy Waltz Photography & Designs

Sponsor GIVEaway ~ Boho Chic*

{all photos above are lovelies modeling accessories from Boho Chic shop}

Months ago, Amy found me on Twitter and it was her kind words that guided me to her website.  I gasped out loud when I first browsed through her shop.  Every single piece felt so kindred to my heart and how I express myself.  Her and I immediately connected, found out we both grew up in Northern California and have many other things in common.  She's a beautiful, vibrant, passionate being with such a creative vision for Bohemians.  I am so thrilled that we were able to come together and that I can offer my readers some love from this gorgeous being!!

But first, a note from Amy Waltz, designer of Boho Chic Jewelry...

portrait of amy waltz

"Amy Waltz Designs (AWD) jewelry is more than jewelry, it's a powerful reminder into our own true uniqueness. Jewelry makes us feel and look beautiful but my hope is that it will be a window into one's own inner beauty and magnificent purpose in life. Perhaps the words intertwined in the jewelry will serve as inspirational mantras or reminders. TRUST. I AM. Believe. LIFE IS A GIFT. Love your life. Fly On .....

I would love it if wearing a piece of AWD jewelry would lend you to think a little more positively, respond to yourself with a little more heart, cause you to smile more and walk a little more gently on the Earth, treat yourself and others in a gentler, kinder nature, trusting your great and wonderful purpose in this life.

I hope that by hearing the sound of it delicately ringing as you wear it, you will breath in the message and that you will remember your power, your beauty, your strength and you will embrace the day just a little more, walking a little lighter, letting go a little more, and opening yourself up to the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. And if you feel like dancing, well, then, by all means ... DANCE. And when you do, let the rhythm of your heart carry you to your place of perfect peace.

Love, light and all things wonderful, Amy Waltz"

Below are a few yummies I own from Amy. She made me a custom design Boho Girl necklace (and decided to add it to her shop!) that I am in LOVE with and am wearing as I type this.  It goes with every*thing and I can layer it with other necklaces.  Her rustic style is prrrfect for me and I feel the good vibrations of her work on my skin.  Mmmmm.

rosalinda dress

I have been collaborating with Hornytoad for quite some time and I am in sweet love with them.  Each person I am in contact with is so very kind and passionate and sincerely FRIENDly.  Those that work there are a family and it is so clear when you browse through their site the healthy environment they cultivate for their employees, as well as customers.  What has been fun is as I've gotten to know a few of their employees, they exude a genuine love and passion for the outdoors and life in general and inspiration to step outside and move my body oozes through our exchanges.  I mean it.  These are good good peeps.

Every piece of clothing I own from them is so very well made.  Truly stellar quality.  The type of clothing that would last you years and be your fave piece that you will wear to the bone and maybe even patch up the holes.  What I love most is that they flatter my curves.  Most companies that design clothing made to function in the outdoors, make them with the intention that you are uber thin-fit with not a lot of curve.  Hornytoad's A-line dresses and skirts really suit my shape and their empire waist shirts and tees are perfect for my bod as well as any shape, really.  Their clothing are my perfect basics.  The ones I slip on to dress up or down or layer.  I often get stopped when wearing their dresses around here and asked about where I got my dress.  I truly cannot say enough about them and that is why they have stayed on as a sponsor and continue to collaborate with me.

Today, we are giving away the beautiful and perfectly designed Rosalinda Dress.  I have two of these and am going to get a few more in different colors.  This dress works all year long for me.  I wear it over pants or tights or with knee high boots.  The fabric is cushiony-SOFT and the colors rich.  The empire waist design makes me feel mmm mmm sexy.  Last year we gave away this dress in a short sleeve Summer version and the winner wrote me an email about how divine it is and that it is a staple in her wardrobe.

What I love even more is that Hornytoad wanted to offer something to those that didn't win.  Aren't they yummy?  So on the day I announce the winner (this Thursday), all those that did not win will get $15 off the Rosalinda Dress plus free shipping (on that day only).  When the time comes, I will post a promo code, for that discount along with the winner.  AND all my readers get 20% off of everything in the shop right now (use code BOHOGIRL). So truly...EVERYBODY WINS!  ; )

Here are a few other Hornytoad pieces that I wear all. the. time... Malena Tee Malena Tank Malena Dress Double Helix Dress Boleo Skirt Lithe Skirt

And I am really eyeing their new Muse dress. It has a pocket! These days I love dresses and skirts with pockets. I am becoming my marmie.

i did it!

From this...{taken two days ago} To this...{taken a few minutes ago}

Yesterday, I had my hair chopped.

A few nights ago, I flipped through a Free People magazine with my friend and pointed at a few long hair styles I was thinking of. This would be the first time I am getting my hair cut since combing out my dreadlocks. I wasn't quite sure what I needed or wanted and was torn between long and layered and short and light. She helped me figure out a few things...that I wanted to be able to wear braids and ponies and messy buns. So I had the picture ready and what I wanted to say to this new stylist all down.

And then I sat in her chair and found myself sharing with her my dread journey.

And after a long pause of staring at my hair in the mirror and taking a deep breath and listening to what my soul needed, I heard the words come out..."just chop it."

The whisper that came to me was that I needed to release some energy left over from my dreads. Not a bad energy. Just energy that needs to take flight, as I spread my own wings and allow this transformation to softness, lightness and ease into my world.

It just seems the journey of my hair most always parallels what I am moving through in my life. Just as getting dreadlocks AND combing my dreadlocks out was a practice in letting go of attachments, so is cutting it short.

Lately I felt myself more annoyed with my hair than it being an expression of who I am. My scalp is still sensitive from the pulling of a few years of heavy dreads. So the many times my long hair got caught under my pillow or arm while I was sleeping or my son or husband's body and pulled, oh my, my once tough scalp was hurting badly at the tug. I am paying attention to those tugs. Not only physically, but emotionally and what feels peaceful in my life and what just plain doesn't.

And that is what I felt in my gut when I sat down in the stylist's chair. I need peace in my locks. Lightness and peace.

A friend of mine asked if there was lots of swishing of my hair yesterday and yah, you could say I swished my hair around quite a lot and this morning I woke up like an annoyingly happy mama baking bread and singing while doing so. I would have never thought that would be me. : ) Baking? Singing? In the morning? I suppose that means I made the right choice.

{texture shop downtown bellingham, taken today}

What a beautiful start to my day today. I was able to get a babysitter and spend a few hours curled up on a couch with my friend Teresa (owner of Texture Clothing) for some much needed girl time. Being with her, I feel so alive. She reminds me of the gypsy in me. The stories of her alternative lifestyle make me ache in the best of ways. She has created a beautiful and free life for herself, surrendering to her passions while at the same time building a sustainable business that allows her to do so.

{teresa in her yummy shop downtown bellingham}

I've been sharing a lot lately how I am listening to my soul in all situations I find myself in. Today when I was with her, I felt an ache to be as free as she was to pick up and travel and explore but at the same time, I felt so grounded with where I am. As we shared our kindred yearnings and spirits, with awareness that we are living two totally different lives, I was still in a space of honoring where I am and loving where I am and I felt that from her too about her own life. It was a beautiful dance of respect for each others choices. My soul felt inspired and as though a breath of life pulsed through me when walking out her door and heading back home to my boys. I am paying attention to these things: The comfort and ease, the inspiration and joy I feel when with someone.

{teresa & me today}

So, we have some goodies for you...

sponsor GIVEaway ~ Lauren Luquin

Deerskin & Antler Ring:

This ring was made with ultra soft deerskin and a ~naturally shed~ deer antler button. It was sewn with natural fiber sinew. It is not adjustable but it will stretch a little.

Forest Sprite Pouch:

Keep your treasured finds, sacred herbs, crystals, or other talismans inside this pouch to carry the medicine with you. This pouch is made with deerskin and sewn with natural fiber. It measures 2 x 2 3/4 inches.

The artist, my deer/dear friend Lauren handmade these beautiful treasures. I cherish the ones she made for me (that is my hand in the photo above and I have a pouch as well) .  I feel their gentle deer medicine when I have them close. Lauren has been so very mindful about my connection to deer since I wrote this post and shared with her their impeccable timing of showing up on certain days in my life. So, we thought it would be appropriate to share some of their gentleness with you as many of you have written so touched about deer and how healing they are.

Edited to add:  Note from Lauren in response to a few questions and concerns...

These buttons were made from naturally shed antlers. I do not support deer farming and I will never buy any hides from any mass produced company that kills deer for their skins. I have been given many hides to work with and I honor the animal by giving thanks for its hide, and by putting it to good use as it does carry the energy of the animal not the energy of the person who skinned it. Most of the hides I use I was given by other medicine people, that were blessed in ceremony... a couple of hides I exchanged for from a local Native American woman who owns a trade post. When I run out of hides I will not be making more products unless I am given more because like you I do not want to contribute to any animal's suffering. When I am given something that use to belong to an animal I do not feel bad using it to share the good energy from it... I feel honored to work with it and keep it's energy flowing in my works. It would otherwise go to waste because I use 90% scrap pieces, which is why there are no large items in my shop.

{Lauren has graciously offered all of my readers a 15% discount in her shop.  Please just enter BOHO15 when checking out.  Thank you, Lauren!}

Rosemarie Dress

I have a good story. Last December, in one of my blog posts, I had linked to my red dress (wearing it here and here) from Horny Toad that I bought at our local REI. A few weeks later, I received a warm and kind email from one of the staff members of Horny Toad. She had researched hits to their site and found many were coming from my blog. She then read through my blog for a while and decided to reach out to me. We exchanged a few emails and with all the love spread around, Horny Toad became one of my sponsors. Stephanie is such a cool gal and I hope to hug her in the flesh someday soon as she too lives in the Pacific Northwest.

We decided that we wanted to extend the gratitude towards my readers by doing a giveaway!  We are giving away one Rosemarie Dress (same style as my red one but with shorter sleeves for Summer!).  The winner will be able to choose which color/size they want (black, green, melon or yellow).  It would be a wonderful treat for yourself or the perfect gift for a loved one.  This fabric is sooooo silky to the touch and it lays fluidly on my curves in the perfect way (not too loose, not too snug) and my favorite feature is the empire waist.  So flattering!

Here is the description on the site:

"A dress so nice we named it twice. The seemingly simple yet downright sexy Rose Marie has the kind of versatility other dresses only dream of. It breathes and moves and follows your curves. It dresses up and dresses down and flatters for days with a graceful V-neck, doubled fabric bodice, horizontal bust pleats, and an empire seam that flows into a soft, A-line drape."

Okay, so onto the rules:

  • Comment can be one word or many...whatever inspires you

About Julie, the designer...whom I adore to the max:

photo of julie by deb schwedhelm

When I turned 40, the fog started to lift in every aspect of my life. I started paying attention to the long list of things I’d been intending to get to… eventually. On the top of that list was becoming a certified yoga teacher, taking a decade of personal practice and turning it into something I could share with others. I’ve read that all of the “little things” we do in life eventually add up into something “that makes sense.” I’ve found this to be true: merging the strength of my Marine Corps training; the customer service skills from waitressing; my knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease process from nursing college; my teaching skills from years as a nurse educator; creating a nurturing classroom from mothering four young children; and my sewing skills to keep the hair out of my face.

The last “little thing” took me by surprise as people started to ask about my batik hair wraps. They wanted one -- or TEN! Yoga studios started to ask if I would sell them on consignment (and would I sell wholesale? and how could their cousin in Tennessee order some? ).

The Yoga Gypsy LLC, which was started as a traveling yoga business, incorporated wrapping people up in Gypsy Wraps. I am grateful that I found a way share two things I enjoy; yoga and sewing.

Take a look at my shop and wrap up!

new frames*

Just want you lovelies to know that Lisa Loeb is now selling frames! I know...so fun, right? We all coveted her glasses in the 90's and now she's finally come out with her own line. I lost my glasses ages ago and have neglected to get a new pair. Now my eyesight is more messed up, so I am making an appointment with an eye doc SOON to fill these cute frames. The ones I just got in the mail are called Truthfully (and funny enough, that is the name of my favorite song of hers).  My sister also got a pair called Hello Lisa.

The photo above is me wearing my new frames but I couldn't take off her name on the glass.  ; )  Perhaps we should all walk around with little affirmations on our glasses anyways.

Wishing all of you a wild, calm, free, chill, love soaked weekend.

When we were getting ready for our trip to Bellingham, we had heard from a few friends that a must do while there is to visit Texture Clothing downtown.  My friend Marybeth lives in and loves her yummy red Posh Pants and when she modeled them for me one day on a video she made for us, I made sure to save up for my own pair.  I loved how they fell on her bod!

So, during our trip, I walked into the darling store and immediately fell in love with the gorgeous fabrics and colors, the earthy vibe and easy going energy.  This really stunning woman walked up to me to say hello and welcome me to the store.  I remember feeling shy because she was so gorgeous and sparkly with a red flower stuck inside one of her two messy buns.  She asked me about my dreadlocks and where I got them done and then we just started chatting like two girlies about hair and clothes and I let her know we were moving there soon.  It was then that I found out her name was Teresa and she was the Proprietress of Texture Clothing and I think I blushed.  I told her that my friend who lives there, Marybeth crushes out on her clothes and she said "I remember Marybeth".  Wow...wow, I thought...so amazingly cool to feel such a small town vibe in that moment.  It was obvious to me in this conversation that Teresa cares deeply about her customers, the environment and giving back to her community.

Over the last few months her and I have exchanged emails, so excited to meet for tea when we will officially be neighbors.  I am honored to collaborate with her on my blog to get the word out about her delicious, eco-conscious and comfy duds.   My posh pants are an almost daily item on my bod and I am loving how fun the comfy skirt looks and feels layered over them.  What I love most about her styles is they are very flattering for women with curves...yay!!!

Teresa sent Boho Boy and I a pair of knit mitts and I was wondering how he would feel about them.  He is not a glove person and is sensitive about fabric held tight to his skin.  When he slipped these soft and warm babies on, he actually said "Mmmm..." (no joke) and is now a convert!  Thank you, Teresa!  ; )  I want a pair in every shade...and they come in such a beautiful array of color combos and would make such an awesome gift.
